Aladdin

I wasn’t expecting Disney+ to have a disclaimer before the movie. The disclaimer talks about the negative views and mistreatment of people in the movie. The message of the whole movie is blatantly stated at the beginning. “It is not what is outside but what’s inside that matters.” If found it interesting that the first guy Jafar takes to the Cave of Wonders says “Oh my Allah.” We’ve got more Disney horses that look like every other Disney horse. I love that when Genie asks Aladin why he likes Jasmine, the first two things he says are she’s smart and she’s funny. If Agrabah is based on Baghdad, I’m pretty sure Jasmine would not be dressed the way she was in the movie, even if she does cover up when she leaves the palace. Prisoner Jasmine is dressed a lot like Princess Leia when she’s Jabba the Hutt’s prisoner.

Now that I noticed an Easter Egg in The Mighty Ducks, I decided to keep an eye out while watching these movies going forward. I already knew that we see Genie wearing a Goofy hat at the end of the movie but I found a few others. During “Friend Like Me,” there’s a dragon that looks like a mix of Elliot from Pete’s Dragon and Figment as elephants that look like the pink elephants from Dumbo. Genie refers to Aladin as Mr Doubtie Mufasa. Part of the spell to change Abu into an elephant is the word Dumbo. When Genie mentions Alaskan King Crab, he holds up Sebastian. Abu as an elephant looks a lot like the elephants in Tarzan. During “A Whole New World,” we see the Pantheon which we’ll see again in Hercules.
