Honey, I Blew Up the Kid

If you grew up in the 90s, you might think that’s not the name you remember for this movie. I remember the movie being Honey, I Blew Up the Baby. It turns out that this title was used for promos but shortly after the movie was released people were upset and they changed the title.Continue reading “Honey, I Blew Up the Kid”

Newsies

The first thing I noticed in this one was the familiar faces that will show back up in The Mighty Ducks. It had to be annoying for the guys that write up the headlines on the giant chalkboard that a kid just comes up and writes “STRIKE” across their hard work. I find it interestingContinue reading “Newsies”

Beauty and the Beast

Full disclosure before you start reading, I watched this after a few glasses of wine while playing a Beauty and the Beast drinking game with some friends. Our insights will either be great or mildly deranged. I thought about rearranging our thoughts to organize them by character but I left it in chronological order. TheContinue reading “Beauty and the Beast”

The Rocketeer

The full Rocketeer costume is giving me Mandolorian/Boba Fett vibes. What were the chances they’d crash planes into gasoline tankards twice? If you watch this and think the singer in the restaurant looks familiar, it is Melora Hardin from The Office. I don’t have much to say about this one. It was an ok movie.

Wild Hearts Can’t Be Broken

I wasn’t expecting Jazz music as the intro music but it does set the tone of the era in which the movie is set. I literally gasped when she started to cut her own hair. Her aunt is messed up to make her put a bag over her head just because of a haircut. IContinue reading “Wild Hearts Can’t Be Broken”

Shipwrecked

I feel like we had enough pirate and shipwreck movies in the 60s and 70s but here we are. The movie is titled Shipwrecked but the actual shipwreck doesn’t happen until halfway through the movie. The kid is pretty savvy when he’s on the island alone. He got the coconut and the water in itContinue reading “Shipwrecked”

White Fang

This was the first movie with animals with a disclaimer stating that all the animals were trained and treated humanely. I feel like many other kids read this book in middle school which was only a few years after the movie came out. I about had a heart attack when I thought the wolf pup was strangledContinue reading “White Fang”

The Rescuers Down Under

Many of the animals in this movie have doppelgangers in other Disney movies. The cricket in the opening scene looks like the cricket in Mulan. Wilber is definitely Scuttle’s cousin. The little boy Cody looks like the young boy version of Steve Irwin. Was Steve Irwin famous by 1990? Why don’t any of the human characters have Australian accents? The animalsContinue reading “The Rescuers Down Under”

DuckTales the Movie: Treasure of the Lost Lamp

For this first movie of the 90s, things were kind of blah. The movie just sort of jumps into things. The McDucks are in the desert searching for treasure. They don’t really give you any background on why. Maybe there is an episode of the TV show that explains why they are on that adventure? I never realized that DuckbergContinue reading “DuckTales the Movie: Treasure of the Lost Lamp”

The Little Mermaid

I forgot about the entire opening scene where the ship’s crew and Prince Eric are discussing the myths of King Triton. I thought the movie just started with “Fathoms Below.” I also thought “Fathoms Below” was a longer song. I really think they used some of the images from the scene where Ariel and Flounder were exploring theContinue reading “The Little Mermaid”
